I don't get a lot of fan mail. But I'm pretty sure I just got the world's best intentioned, but poorly thought out, fan letter:

Love yer site, your Drupal work, and omfg, you're even into the Ubuntu doc-team. I think that is the grandest, and I'll likely gawk atcha in DC during DrupalCon where a 3D screensaver / wallpaper, and general graphic homage will be born out due to a slick time lapse photo montage shall ensue, et. al. ;->
Keep on rockin' in the free world. :-)

The identity of this person will forever be known to only two people (me and "him"), so please don't ask. Although I am a little bit creeped out by this email, this Public Service Announcement isn't about making anyone feel uncomfortable. (I've sent my fair share of weird emails that have been fuelled by inside jokes and caffeine and not at all fuelled by sanity, so I'm hardly one to judge. This person has gotten a quick reply back and knows how I feel about the email.)

This blog post is actually a specific request to please never "gawk" at me from a distance. Say hello and introduce yourself! I verge on crowd-phobic. I hate having to interact with a room full of pre-clustered people. Delivering a presentation to a few hundred people? No problem. Facilitating huge discussion groups? Love it! But I'd rather have teeth pulled than "work a room." So the next time we're both together in the same room, please come up and introduce yourself. I'll be the one sitting in the corner noodling with tech to avoid having to break into a cluster of people and say hi.

I once gave a presentation in front of an entire room of booing. Was actually kind of fun.

How funny that you should have this problem, this sometimes happens to me and its freaky. I'd really rather meet up with people and have them come and introduce themselves than follow me around and listen to me talk for most of a day ( which did happen to me recently ). I'm similarly not-at-ease at general gatherings and like nothing more than putting names and faces to IRC nicks, everyone assumes outspoken women are supremely comfortable and confident.

As someone who has spent time gawking at Emma, I totally understand where this emailer is coming from. I find the tone of the message just right. However, I am slightly creeped out by their instantaneous switch from "yer" to "your."

You right, that is scary. I punched in "Emma Jane Hogbin" into Google images, and there is nothing that would make me want contort your face in pleasure. :-p

But, yeah, it's scary anyways. ROFL

Frank "Anonymous" Bárcenas: I'm not sure how your comment is any more appropriate than the original email that I posted. More subtle? Sure. But leaving a comment implying you looked for pictures of me and deemed me unworthy of being "pleasured" by you is really quite disturbing. You may want to spend a little more time thinking before you leave comments in the future. Thanks.

PS There is nothing lost in translation as you implied in your response from barcenas.francisco@gmail.com. I was giving you a chance to prove the idiot filter was wrong. Obviously you failed.

Emma his comments are very disturbing on a lot of different levels. I would like to meet Frank in person and have a little discussion with him about treating people with a little respect.

Well Emma, just reading the "About" section... I think you're pretty special. Both pretty and special. I haven't a clue what Drupal is but I love using Ubuntu so thank you for your work on Linux. All the best to you. :-)
