Haven't I Seen You Before?

I recently put together a little brochure-ware site for a new adventure: The Wellness Road Trip. The group of organizers needed something easy and fast and pleasant to look at. I think they've managed to get all three thanks to a few modifications on the most excellent Acquia Marina theme by Top Notch Themes.

Let's take a look at the before (from Theme Garden's rendering of the template) and after (the live site):

Expanded Wireframes

After the first round of community consultation, the Bazaar home page wireframe has been updated and the basic shape has gone to the designers for graphical treatment. (You can read the mailing list summary.) Not including the footer, the home page has gone from 700+ words to less than 300 words. The wireframe still feels full, but there's order to it now.

Bazaar Personas

There's been some great feedback to the intial RFC for the Bazaar Home Page Redesign (for the mailing list thread). One of the things that became clear in the feedback is that we don't have a good sense of who the home page is for and what it's trying to get those people to do. I've written up a set of three different people that I want to "sell" Bazaar to. Want to know who they are? Hop over to the Bazaar Personas page, or join the Bazaar mailing list to take part in the discussion.

From the Bazaar Personas page:

Who comes to the front page of the Bazaar Web site? We need to know this to get the BazaarHomePageRedesign right.

Let's pretend that Bazaar is a product you can buy. That allows us to use fun and vomit inducing terms like "sales conversion" and "unique selling proposition." The front page of the Bazaar site must pitch solutions to potential customers in a way that pulls them in past the front page where the real meat of the site happens. To know the right way to funnel people in, we need to know "who" we're dealing with. This document outlines different types of people who are landing on the front page that are potential customers. We'll use these personas to figure out how to funnel each type of person to an appropriate area of the site where they will ultimately choose to use Bazaar because it rocks.
